I already have one, just wondering if i could use it. Wasn't sure if it's to small.

In my opinion a 220 is too small. I wouldn't use anything smaller than a 280, however I would suggest a using 330's and foot hold traps over both of them.

It will do the job. It nabs them right behind the ears. Tie your wire very well!

The hassle with the 220 is getting the beaver to commit to the small opening. But once it does it's yours.

Like Musher said make sure you wire it very good. I have caught some big beaver in 220's set for otter but would reccomend the 330 for beaver.

Here is another tip. When the Beaver is caught it goes into a death spin. I use a swivel on my 330s second link from the spring. I have had the chain twisted right up to the stake. Also wire it up good.

You can use a 220 on land in Illinois, and this is the only place I will use them for beaver. The location has to be just right for me to use them, usually at the top of a bank where they have worn a groove from repeated use. I find these that are just the right size for a 220. I take the trigger all the way to the side and bend up the inside trigger wire till it is horizontal with the top jaw and wire it off good to the side of the trail about three or four feet if possible. When a catch is made it will expire straight down from where it is anchored and keep them out of the way for the others to use the trail.

Sorry to digress--the 220 should only be used by experienced beaver trappers.You will end up educating more beaver with a 220 than you will catch.It can have its place,but as a new member of the beaver trapper fraternity--go with a beaver trap--the 330 is what you want to use.
To many new trappers--and old alike--try to get by with what they have---big mistake.
Use the right sized trap,it will pay for itself --many times over.And you will have far fewer headaches.
The 220 was made for coon---the 330 was made for beaver.How many 70 pound coon have you ever seen?
