Any one have a preference to a GOOD Trapping Coat. Mine is getting pretty worn, and seeing two different advertisement's in the Trapper Magazine and Nite Lite magazine has me wondering if there worth the money. Any one have a preference or suggestion on a good warm trapping coat, would be appareciated.

I have always been fond of the army "field jacket" myself. Plenty of big pockets, snaps as well as a zippered closure, and even a hood (hidden away inside the collar) for those cold days. As for warmth, I prefer to "layer" on clothing. That way I can peel off layers if I get too warm. To me there is nothing worse than having a nice warm jacket -- on a nice warm day.

I live in Louisian and dont really own a coat. Here its long johns and a flannel shirt.

Hal hit it 100% on the nose...I do EXACTLY the same...the army coat also has button in liners as well...BEST coat you can get!!!

Thanks Hal, I agree with you,I have been looking into a Field Jacket, Unfortionately we have lost a couple of the Army Surplus stores we had within the area, were now down to one, and its small. I checked with them a couple of weeks ago, and they didn't have any in my size. I think competition with mail order catalogs discount magazines have really hurt them. The one we lost was huge and was in business for many years. So I appreciate your comments, good luck this year.

i have a field jacket with liner left over from the army i use, its warm and i can take the liner out on warm days. they are hard to find now. mine was the original one.

Only my second year but hear in MO it can get fairly cold on one day and warm the next. I love my Filson Outfitter w/ zip-in liner. It can keep you warm in 0 degree weather or, zip out the liner and use it on a rainy 60 degree day. It is completely water proof and the most durable coat you will ever buy. It truly will last a lifetime. Best place to find one worth the money is on ebay. They are very stiff when you first buy them and it takes a while to break them in however they are worth the extra time investment. Just my two cents.

A carhartt is hard to beat and easy to find, you may want to get a hunter orange dew rag as the brown may look like a deer to an idiot...

you might check out coleman surplus in millersburg pa. they are on line and have usa and nato surplus. They can likely hook you up with what ever you need. I think there address is just colemansurplus.com, but i will check it out in the next day and let you know for sure.
