I've been picking up some white ermine while trapping for mink up here in Alaska. Is there a market for these little guys?

Yep. It's easy gas money. Skin them and sell them unless you can sell them whole to a taxidermist. The large ones fit nicely on a female mink board. The smaller ones fit on a squirrel board or modified toilet paper roll.

"modified toilet paper roll"

I'm curious.

Please explain the toilet paper roll to me as well. It seems that it would be too short but there is probably something I'm not picturing.

For a small weasel you trim a toilet paper "tube" as a stretcher. If it's a little short you can use a paper towel roll tube.

It works!

Do you smash the tube flat?

1 5/8 Wide @ 3 1/2"
2 1/2" @ 16"
18-20" Long @ 2 1/2" Wide

These are measurements from NAFA Fur Auctions Pelt Handling Manual, hope this helps!! I've caught 16 Weasels so far this season, they are easy money when it comes to pelting & boarding them and they bring about the same $$ as a muskrat pelt.

Yes, Hal, you must flatten the roll. After flattening the roll you trim one end round with scissors. You also have to trim one side of the tube to make it the proper width.

It isn't as good as a real wood stretcher but it works. Weasels dry quickly. Sometimes I'll get a run on weasels and I'll be out of stretchers. When my stretchers are full a tube has saved the day more than once. I've done it for squirrels too.

I stretch the large weasels on female mink boards.
