I use a Ruger single six 22 cal. Although when I'm away at work I let my 9 year old son take a single shot 28 ga. I don't feel safe letting him shot the hand gun along yet. He did have to use it on one opposum this year. I think by next year I'll get a 22 cal bolt action rifle for him.

I use a .22 as well. Leaves less holes.

I carry a little Smith&Wesson revolver. A model 34, which is usually called a "kit gun". Best little revolver I have ever owned. It's traveled miles and miles with me and is so light you don't even know it's there. For places a handgun is not allowed, I have an old 1906 Winchester pump rifle without a scrap of blue left on it. Someone cut the stock short on it years ago to make a boys rifle. It's probably only about 32" long and really handy to carry. 22 shorts or CB caps are the way to go, although when I was your age I carried a Sheridan air rifle that always worked when it was called upon.

I carry a s&w 63 which is the stainless steel version of the model 34. Fantastic gun,but hard to find used. Used to carry a blued colt diamondback .22 but due to the fact I wear a shoulder holster, the blued versions dont last very long for me.

I use a H&R model 999 .22 cal. Can use .22 cb caps, shorts, longs or long rifles. I carry it in a holster mounted to the side of my basket. I'm happy with it.

I just recently bought a stevens crackshot26
.22 at a show. very light and small single shot lever. i was told a .22 short will easily dispatch any furbearer, thats what i plan to carry next year on my line.

I carry a Smith & Wesson model K .22 and shoot Remington sub-sonic hollow points. I shoot all animals in the head for a very quick humane kill with no pelt damage. The sub-sonic ammo does not bang near as loud as the standard long rifle hollow points and still does the same job as the long rifles.
