Has anyone used the three sided aluminum fleshing knife that I see for sale different places these days? Wondered how they worked and how sharp you could get the aluminum (or if it mattered)?
Thanks

To clarify the question, I'm interested mainly in how it works for coons.

Somebody enlighten me. I'm not familiar with any three sided aluminum fleshing knives. Where exactly did you see this item? -- Hal

They are very popular in my part of the world. I've never heard of them being sharpened.

Here is a link to a catalogue with photos. The 3 sided knife is in the right hand column, second down.

Yes Musher. That's the one. I saw it on the Schmitt web site. Have you ever used one?

Yes, but I'm not a fan. There is no real reason why. I have a couple of plexiglass ones as well as a typical flesher with the single handle for fox, marten, rats, mink, fisher etc.and the fancy two handled type for beaver/wolf.

Guys like them a lot. I just have a preference for what I already have. If I needed a fleshing tool, I would look at them. They don't wear out or break.I have never heard of anyone sharpening one so I cannot comment on that.

The checkering on the handlers do fill with fat but all handles gets greasy. It isn't a problem.

Thanks. I think I'll try one just to see how it goes. Can always go back to the old knife.
