nicc: Why do you feel that the Ram is so important? And do you think that Marty's new lock will replace the Ram?

Musher.
The ram is my only legal snaring option in the open area trapping district for a lot of animals.
In this area we can get snow everyday and lots of it with all sorts of sleet mixed in from time to time.

I find less snare damage and no waterheads with the Ram.

I don,t think that martys lock will ever totally replace the ram even if it becomes legal in all areas.

I have no doubt that some of the guys with Registered traplines(no snaring restrictions ) are already using Martys lock.

hope that answers your questions.

For those of us that are snare ignorant, what is "Marty's lock?" I know the basic concept of a Ram (though others might not). Thanks.

Are you guys talking about the lock or the powering device behind the lock. (I think the latter.)

A ram is a conibear type spring that closes a snare around the animals head.

Marty Senneker has invented a device that releases a compressed stinger spring. Thus the animal closes the snare, thereby activating the release device, and the stinger applies pressure. In other words the animal does not compress the stinger spring. The spring is already compressed by the trapper.

Think of it as a super mini Ram around the catches neck. smile

I think the KB stabilizer is a great invention. It is the easiest and most versatile stablizer I have ever used. Beavers to woodchucks, square traps are a snap to place and they are rock solid no matter the ground your setting on.

A while back we had a thread about those little stinger springs. Remember someone from Canada posted pictures with Canada's $2 coin (tooney), for a size reference. Payscho(sp) maybe?, not sure? I'd like to see a picture of Marty's new spring gizmo.

Maybe, but those springs are not preloaded. I would like to see how the preloading works.
