Can i use stainless cable for snares for yotes, or would the shine be too noticeable? I know it's higher, but I have about 50 foot laying in the shed not being used for anything. So, I thought I would put it to use.

Yes, you can use Stainless Steel. What type of cable do you have, and what diameter?
I run quite a bit of stainless for otter and live coyote work. The cable I run is a semi-custom cable. It is a 7X7 stainless cable that "began life" as 3/32" diameter, but then was run thru a swaging die, and swaged down to a 5/64" diameter. It is an expensive cable, but the price is well worth it for the work I put it to. I know some Western snaremen who call this cable, "smooth line".

I paint my stainless, at least by mid-summer, for use in the coming season.

I find that if I hang cable for spray painting, the paint tends to run down the cable, and can become a problem when the snare fires. I lay all my cable to be painted on a flat surface, and give it a quick once over. When it has dried completely, I turn it over, and hit the other side.
This method of spraying works well for me. Someone else may have a better touch than I do.

It is 7x7x3/32. Will it work unpainted?

I don't know.
That's something you will have to try, and see what happens.
I wouldn't use it unpainted.

I boil my snares in baking soda. This gets rid of the shine and eliminates all odor.

Boiling in baking soda for stainless steel cable?
I use the technique for galvanized cable, but have not found that it is very effective for stainless steel.

What color are you painting your snares 45/70 and what kind of paint? Spray Bombs? Is it worth it to take the time to paint galvanized snares? they've already been boiled with baking soda.

The only real problem with new snares is "The Shine". Critters are color blind, so colour is of little importance. That said, if your going to choose a color, I would use one that doesn't stand out to passers by. Stainless cable would be the only type I would paint as galvanized can be dulled with soda to get rid of the shine.

I guess your right about them being color blind RiverOtter. I think though we should point out that they're not contrast blind. So I guess I'm kind of answering my own question here. In the fall when there's no snow around would it be more beneficial to have your snares a dark color? On the flip side, in snow would it be beneficial to have snares painted white? Even though my snares have been boiled with baking soda and are a grayish color, they still stand out proud against the snow.
