Is dyeing traps every year mandatory If I use wax especially the traps that go under ground?

dyeing traps every year isn't mandatory but it does help prevent rust and also if you dont dye then you should at least boil them in water to get rid of old wax and odors. Waxing them yearly helps you to be able to open them easier and keeps them working smoothly. You know my personal opion on doing both before and after season though anyway. remember dont wax conibears.

Logwood and other "boil type" dyes offer no significant rust protection.

my bro and i paint our traps w/ a primer. we painted some back in the mid 90's and they still look great. the smell leaves w/n a week then ya can wax em. been workin for us for several years.

Even though dye doesn't prevent rust it does still help prolong it. if you never dyed them they would get pitted long before they would if you dye them. Atleast that's what i was told by several people.

hal- what is the benefit of dyeing traps? I know waxing them helps you to open them easier whats the purpose of dye?
