Beaver wise or for that matter anywise..........

dippen snares, does it do any good or is it a waste ?

I havent dipped or dulled a beaver snare ever, I have done ok and snared the pee outta a few insidental otter and fox in the same snare....

Is it worth the trouble ??

It does save the locks from rusting up ...

rusty locks have never caused me a problem.........

If you're like me, you probably set a few snares each year that don't connect. i'd rather have that snare re-usable next fall. back in March i bought some of Newt's Formula One, dip/coat? i bought the "brown", after 2 dips they are really camoed nice, and didn't really slow the snare either. i dunked around 6 dozen snares in 10 minutes or so, and then dunked them again, after the first batch dried. not sure if it'll make a difference or not? my sample snares on the porch have been in the weather since March, and still look about the same.

I don't dip snares, never have. I will boil yote snares in soda, but everything else just goes on the line. I leave plenty on the line every year(Closed up) and don't have a problem with them holding the next season. If they are not under water or laying on the ground, they have a long life span.

Nope, use to bake in soda but don't even do that anymore, not seen a reason to dip/dye snare's.

I boil them in baking soda to clean them up and dull the shine, but here’s a note of caution. Do not use too much baking soda in your water 1/4 cup to a gallon is way plenty.

One time I had an old box of baking soda I was trying to get rid of so I threw it all into the soup kettle I was boiling my snares in. I had the solution so caustic that it actually ate some of the galvanizing completely away. Subsequently, the cable rusted.

I see no difference at all.

I used to boil snares or cable restraints here in WI ...LOL.... but have taken to just putting snares in vinegar for two or three days , taking out and rinsing good and hanging up to dry... works well and of course no $$ in heating up water ... Newt explain how you dip your snares in your Formula One as i know lots of people have and have nothing but problems with heavy coating on cables.... Proceed Proffessor NEWTON!
