Got a beaver from last spring tanned. I made a hoop from green willow and want to lace the pelt in the hoop for a wall hanging. Problem is: it won't lay flat. No matter how I try, there is a bubble in the center of the pelt when I try to flatten it out. I pull left to right and the bubble goes one way -- pull up to down and the bubble goes the other way. Can I soak the entire pelt in a pail of clean water and then lace it? Will it become more pliable? Will it dry without messing it up? Any experience on this?

I done quite a few of them. With a spray bottle mist the leather side till slightly damp. Re-stretch taking the "bubble" out and let dry.
