Here's a peek at the annual Rattlesnake feed. Second Saturday of the year. It was 10* when it started, warmed up to around 20* later in the day. The grilled bear meat was good, very good BBQ'd pork, a 30 gallon kettle of chili, not sure how many tubs of fried bread they fixed? Oh, and they grilled about 20 Canada goose breasts, they're good too.

Estimated crowd, around 300.

Did you actually eat any rattlesnake?

No. Honestly, I didn't even see any snake meat. They never have enough for everyone, not much meat on a snake. Mostly bones. I fried one here at the house once, it's ok, I guess. Much less work to fill up on pork. I'll tell you the deep fried tater chunks were good too. And they had a bunch of deer meat too.

My buddy Jim grilled 10 bear hams, over an open wood fire. Not sure what brand of "meat rub" he was using? Spicy in a way, but it had a good flavor.

In my opinion ---- the only good snake is a dead one.

I don't know if I can agree with that, but it's not a good idea to eat live ones.

Hmmm, I really can't comment here, I've never tried one that was still rattling?

Ron, do they have a strong or bitter taste?

I have found generally most snakes I find have been hit over the head with a stick. Funny thing.

Hey Redsnow, except for one dude, it looks like everybody has their faces to the sun and their backs to the wind. At 10* I don't blame them. But maybe next time you could holler HEY before you slap the trigger on your camera. Might see someone who looks like someone who is related to someone we know! grin

Frank.
