I had an interesting wolf catch this week. The trap was a #3 4 coiled soft catch.


The wolf has what looked like a hoof tear by the base of its tail. There were a couple of other smaller tears on the back.



Not a big one but a wolf is a wolf. I didn't weigh it.

Nice looking animal. That is a nasty looking cut, looks to be pretty fresh too.

Not sure how far out in the boonies you are, do you reckon someone could have smacked it with a vehicle?

It is possible, but there were a couple of other small half moon cuts in the pelt.

I also though bite, then truck, then I looked closely. I met another trapper on the way home and showed him the wolf. I asked what he thought without saying what I thought. "DEER!" was his quick reply.

Could it have been caused from a fight with another Wolf? Or are the wounds too severe? Or a Moose? I understand they can have a very bad temper at times.
