Took the nephew out to show him how to snare beaver under the ice.

Was real proud of him catching his 1st 2 beaver under the ice in snares

this guy had 2 snares on him

Ready to go .Normally I would use a bigger pole so the beaver has to circle it to chew it off.But we were short on time today

oldtimey set

He can carry this one.

He,s real eager to learn how to skin..So I thought it best to ease him into it.I don,t think he knows days like this are coming

Looks like he's the type to be very practical when it comes time to carry them out! You don't seem to have any snow. Is the Jon a 35 cc.?

Looking good!

The ole Platform Set. I haven't seen, read or heard anything about that set for years! What do you have there, 2 nails down through the spring eyes to hold it in place?

yep. you just need to test fire the trap 1st time or 2 you set one up so you know how much much room you need on the spikes. So it fires right.

Honestly, I've only made a platform set just a couple of times, good ice is rare around here! Well as I remember, I wired my trap to the platform, just a piece of tie wire, wrapped around just enough to hold the trap in place. Any critter would pull the trap free, after a catch. I've done the same, setting traps on logs, just enough to keep it from sliding off.

Let me ask, what is that green looking bait pole? In the first picture, pretty sure that's a white birch. But I'm not sure about the green pole and bait sticks? Looks almost like aspen? Whatever it is, it doesn't grow here.
