A friend of mine asked me to set for coyote, try and thin them out before deer hunting. My dilemma is this, are they worth anything to skin and stretch and try and sell or just keep practicing my skinning and throw them?

You need to grade them on the hoof. Some are nice colored and have a full set of hair. Most here have about three problems that make them not worth skinning. It's kind of early now isn't it?

Yes it is early but the yote season never ends here because they are such a problem. The guy that asked me to help has had many pictures of yotes chasing his deer. And wants them gone. I'll grade them but I didn't think the would be good to skin.

This is a good time to practice your put-up, and fleshing. If you mess up you aren't out anything but time, and if the market does come back around you will have done all your learning already on almost worthless fur.

In my area a yote brings $12. That's skinned only. They have to have fur on their back, not hair. A carcass (whole animal, not skinned) brings 8 bucks. I sell them whole carcass, the extra 4 bucks simply aint woth the trouble to skin them, IMO.

Ya, but any practice putting up fur will ultimately reward you for when the market picks up. Coyotes are stinky nasty critters to peel and put up, but that extra $4.00 bucks per pelt can add up and like I said, the experience will pay off.
