I have never talked to anyone who has found setting the "top edge" of a water course to be very effective. The one big problem that stands out is water level fluctuation.

Are you sure you aren't referring to the "bottom edge" set that Ken Smythe popularized several years back

As Randy mentioned, "culverts", ditch pipes, make some of the best spots. I myself have been cutting up 2' sections of pvc pipe placing gland lure and cut fish in the center and placing them with two 1 1/2" cs traps at both ends of the pipes next to a well travelled path on creeks.. seems to work well. Good trapping-adam

do you cover up your traps at all or what works best and how far back from the pvc are your traps and how do you position your traps which way with the dog Thank YOU very much!

Cover everything but the pan with soggy forage or sand one, dog facing outwards both sides.

I'd back off the water and set the trap against the bridge wall on land. They hug the walls at a lot of bridges after they hit dry ground and you don't have to worry about minor water fluctuation.

You guys still have me confused with the "top edge" description. Here is what I've used for quite a while that is similar to what ARtrapper describes

I'm wondering how the trap fires with the rear jaws screwed into the ribs of the corrugated tile?

Just Fine

Seriously.. The square that makes up the jaw frame is at it's maximum dimension when in the set position. As soon as the trap is fired and the frames start to close that dimension becomes smaller releasing them from the tube

Does that closing action tend to thrust the trap outward toward the critter while clearing itself from the tile using the ribs as push off points? Very interesting looking set!

Frank.

Hard to tell.

You would think so but I still get some single strikes at the base of the skull. I maintain the triggers on my 110's, with sloppy triggers it may be more noticeable. I worked this up for a special situation and muskrats, not a bad setup for mink. Traps are 110 BMI with the "magnum jaw". The only 110 I'll use in a non drowning situation for mink. You will need to check if the 110 traps you have will work, dimensions differ.

Randy,

Yes, the long wires in a "circle" shape lessen the # of mink that can slip through. For muskrats not necessary but sure don't hurt anything

I think I should get some of them. I like 110's inside of tiles also, I have to bend out my triggers but the triggers you use will help ALOT! Thanks Ric!

"Sullivan's Circle Triggers" are still available. That is the cost effective way to convert 110's. Most have trigger wires to short to achieve the desired result.

I got some circle triggers from Hal last year at our convention and I like them a lot. I also got some of his 330 triggers and they are definitely an improvement over factory ones.
