Let me add that dye does nothing other than color the traps. In my opinion, the brown color that rust leaves is a good color and needs no further enhancement. I haven't dyed traps in 20 years.

Before this goes any farther, let us differentiate between "dye" a coloring agent and "dip", which is an agent much like paint that coats a trap with a non-porous surface. There are several colors to choose from. Dip is not dye, no matter what might be written on the can.

I "dip" large water traps for protection. I wax my small traps and land traps.

I like to dye my traps. Gives me lots more time to sit outside and drink beer instead of shopping with the wife. Only costs a bag of dye crystals! And a few more beers...

Just an update and a question. I ended up soaking my 13 traps in Vinegar for 2 days. Then power washed them off and amazingly all the rust cam off except for 1 Herters #2. Anyway as they are drying they are starting to rust now.

I'm asking because I myself have not dyed or waxed my traps but have bought alot of dyed used traps. Now I like the idea of the quick dye, what's a good depenable dye or dip? Thanks
