I am headed to Northern NY today to my camp, where I was intending to set for Coyote and 'Cat. I just called a buddy "up there" to inquire about the weather. 8 to 14" of snow = doable. Minus 14 degrees F. right now = NOT doable. I guess I will take several back issues of FFG and spend some time reading and staring out the window! Playing outdoors in sub zero weather---NOPE!---that ship sailed many years ago.

We had three inches of rain a week ago and the saturated ground is like concrete. I think I saw sparks flying trying to chip out a trap bed. Been hacking out a frozen bowl to set trap in and covering with light on sight material for a few cat sets working. It's slow going but at least have some sets out. Supposed to get single digits for a couple of nights.

I put in and reworked a total of 13 sets yesterday. I wanted to get everything in ahead of the 2 to 4 inches of snow today and the next ten days of single digit temps. When I left the house it was minus 10. Besides my hands, I was actually over dressed and way too warm. The best part was seeing coyote tracks every where! This is my favorite time of the year to trap!

We just had a week of -30 c. without wind chill. And there is wind. It is supposed to continue for another week.

Spent yesterday ice fishing and sliding with the grandkids. It was at a touristy area a few hours south of home. Lots of people from France and even signs in Mandarin! The tourists were freezing. The Canadians were fine but you had to watch the wind. Red cheeks turn white quickly on little ones.

I've got -1* F. now. Coldest day we've had for a long time. No wind, just calm as can be. Here in the valley we don't have any snow cover, folks are having trouble with their waterlines.

Had -17 on my truck thermometer on the way home from work this morning. I have owned that truck for 11 years, and that's the coldest the thermometer has ever read. It's brutal out there. Truck was dragging a little when I turned the key.

On the bright side, though, I did see a coyote this morning on my way home about 2 miles down the road from my house. The things you see when the .223 is at the house.

Still in the minus 30's C. This type of weather is tough on the wood pile.

Supposed to warm up this week.

About a dozen of us were out yesterday snaring suckers. The best river ice we've had for years, it was a good 7 or 8 inches thick.

I've got 25* today.
