It seems that 3rd party hosting will be back, at a more reasonable fee, from Photobucket. And the CEO that made the original decision is no longer with the company.

I'm glad that the fine folks at Photobucket decided to restore our pictures!

Looks like $99 a year for 100 gigabytes
Or $59 per year for 50 gigabytes.

Are y'all willing to pay that?

Nope!

I'm not sure, look at the 2017 deer thread, I can see all of my pictures using Photobucket.

All of my pictures, up until page 14 or 15 were using Photobucket.

I'm on my work computer now, I assume everyone else can see them too. Not sure? But they are all visible.

I just glanced at the deer thread I started in June of 2016, all of those pictures are visible, using Photobucket.

Looks like 137,000 times that thread has been viewed. I think it was on page 3 of this board.

•Free: Photo sharing and ad-supported storage only. No third-party hosting.
•Basic: 2 gigabytes of photo storage and ad free hosting for $2.49 a month
•Intermediate: 20 GBs of photo storage for $3.99 a month
•Expert: 2 terabytes of photo storage for $8.99 a month
•Add third-party hosting to the intermediate or expert plans for $2.49 more per month

More:

Denver, May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Photobucket today announced new, comprehensive and flexible image storage and hosting options that are being rolled out by a new management team focused on doing the right thing for customers. To re-establish trust among its long-standing and new customers, Photobucket has made changes to its pricing model that includes a competitively priced plan that fits the needs of many of its customers.

Photobucket is now offering a new, competitive subscription package with an ad-free experience, storage and third-party image hosting for just $1.99 per month (or $19.99 per year) - which is 95% less than their previous image hosting plan. A free subscription option is still available to customers who do not require third-party image hosting.

Photobucket’s new CEO is Ted Leonard, a technology and finance industry veteran who has deep roots as an entrepreneur. Over the past six months, he has assembled an experienced and customer-focused management team that has been working around the clock to reinvent Photobucket’s pricing structure and packages in a way that will best support customer needs. The new management team has a vision for building a renewed Photobucket that can attentively and fairly serve customers while also moving toward a sustainable business model.

“We have taken back Photobucket and are working diligently to return it to the premier image storing and hosting service that it was known as previously,” said Ted Leonard, CEO, Photobucket. “There were some mistakes made and we acknowledge them. Our new leadership is dedicated to helping our customers do great things with their images in a fair, cost-effective and valuable way.”

As of today, all hosted images that Photobucket’s customers had lost access to last year have been restored.

“There are more changes coming, but we hope that this initial subscription offering and restoring access to customers’ photos will help to reinstate goodwill among our customers who had depended on Photobucket to conduct business and share their work,” said Leonard.

(Emphasis my own -- Hal)

Unless I misread this, the photos reappearing now are just a gesture of good will. There is no free plan that offers third party hosting. So I strongly encourage anyone who is not willing to pay for photobucket service to get their photos hosted somewhere else. They are quite liable to disappear again. The $1.99 per month is a limited time offer too.

I cannot find the 2 bucks a month one. The least expensive one I see is a fiver a month.

All I see are 3 plans of which one enables 3 party hosting. It costs a fortune. Maybe it's not a Canada available deal?

Yeah, where your blue strip appears with the 'check it out' box in it, I found it to say something about 'more'. But now even that is gone, and only the three choices appear.

Frank.

I don't know what's going on, but the $1.99 plan has now disappeared from this link:

http://photobucket.com/plans/

And I am also getting a "Page not found" error on part of the second link -- but it's not consistent!!!!

Try again.

When Photobucket says that it's a "limited time offer", they mean it!

I looked at the link this morning with the $20 per year deal, it lasted what 48 hours?

But on that link where they said it was a "limited time offer", they told us right there, the price is going up.

It's none of my business what you guys do, but they also said "more changes coming". Looks to me like a feller had better let things play out and see exactly what does happen.

So, how long do y'all think this free third-party hosting is going to last? I just looked at the current plans. $30 per year for 2 gig. (400 photos) or $70 per year for 20 gig (4,000 photos). If you're not going to sign up, you better get your photos back while you can.

I'll give you my take on this deal, I'm going to let things ride.

I look at it like this: Photobucket blocked our pictures about a year ago, if you can do without something for a year, do you really need it?

I won't be able to post pictures to any other forum, but I didn't do that very often anyway.

Who can say, maybe Photobucket will continue to host our "old" pictures? The way that I've been posting pictures is easier, quicker, and don't need to X out a bunch of pop-up ads. And it's free.

It's just like the "deer" threads, these are wild animals, it's not like I can say: Here's deer #12 in August of 2016, here he is in 2017 and here he is now.

Honestly, how many of you guys go back and read threads that are 2 or 3 years old?

We've had some very good and interesting threads here on the Hollow Log Board, but if it'd be anything really exciting, it would be on page #1.

I'll just keep my Photobucket money, and might buy myself another trail camera.

I think the archives get read a lot. They are the best part of this site and they also make this site the most instructional of any.

You no longer get pop up adds when you subscribe. You are paying so advertizers don't have to pay for you.

We did without Photobucket for a year and lots of threads were never created due to that. It's tough to make a trap line thread with no photos. I stopped taking photos of my catches. Since I subscribed, I have taken photos of a couple of bears I caught this week.

I agree the archives are second to none! And I agree that they do see a lot of action, there are always a few people reading the archives.

It's just one of those things, Photobucket wasn't consistent with their prices. It's like they didn't know what was going on. Stuff like that, I'll let ride, and feel things out.

Honestly the way that I've been posting pictures is easier and quicker that it was before using Photobucket.

Who knows what the folks at Photobucket will do? At the end of your subscription, will they raise the price to $400 or $500 per year? I just don't like doing business with outfits like that. I'll let them ride.

Fortunately, as I said before, this photobucket fiasco did not mess up our archives too badly. For the most part, when I placed a thread in the archives (or knew I was going to) I put copies of those photos right here, and linked them up. As long as this site stays up, those photos will be available in those threads. (I never used PB and I didn't trust those folks from the git go.)

I think it is 4000. I got the second plan. The first was too few photos.

Unless you're talking about the bears! I am allowed 4 per line. If I turned the hoops I could get 20.They are too much work for too little cash to do that. I usually stop at 4 and I trap close to the house. I target those that are near camps and likely to cause a problem.
