There's a rock wall on my trapline that bobcats walk back and forth on. I assume they walk on it for stealth and better visibility while hunting. Any and all suggestions on what sets to use would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately it's illegal to use snares where I trap. Thank you.

1)On top Blind set at pinch point where you can get trap stabilized.
2)At ground level Flashy dirt hole where they go up and come down

Thanks Ric..... I was also considering making a rock cubby near the rock wall without disturbing the area.

Cubbys work well for Cat's. Don't need to be elaborate

That was going to be my suggestion. Make a cubby so the cat can see it easily from the rock wall. I don't know how the wall lies in your habitat, but something else to consider is finding the cat's approach and giving it easy access to wall by leaning a log against it. Then bed your trap at the base of the log.

I know this is an older post, but Id dump a bucket full of dirt on top of that fence/wall in a couple places and put in some blind sets then back um up with the cubbies or dirt holes or what ever you dicide. A trash pile set would be good and flashy with plenty of good fluffy feathers!might as well set it heavy rock fences around here are super highways for fur good and bad (possum or cat)

Thanks for the suggestion Muddober. I've never caught a bobcat before so I'm open to any and all suggestions. I came very close last year judging by the tracks in the snow. I'm hoping this is the year. I have 2 different bobcats on my trail camera that I will be focusing on this year. One has exceptional markings on it considering it's in New York. The other one is beautiful too. One looks grayish and young while the other was larger and brownish. I'll try to figure out how to post the photos.

The top one looks like a "rosetta" cat. Meaning it is spotted all over. I've caught a couple of them.

I know it's difficult to tell , but do you think it's a kitten or fully grown ? To me it looks like a young one.

Secondly , is the fur of a "rosetta" bobcat more valuable than the bright white bellys / spotted bobcats that come from the western states ? I remember seeing western bobcat pelts reaching $1000.00. Are "rosetta" bobcats considered rare ?

I have no interest is selling any bobcat that I might be lucky enough to catch this year. I would however , like to have a full body mount done .

Cats are valued on the belly.

I can't tell the age of that cat.

Thanks for the encouragement. The trapping season in New York doesn't open until October 25th. Unfortunately , the bow hunters will be out there October 1st. I realize many bobcats are taken during the various deer seasons. That's okay because I'm a deer hunter too. Would the bobcat fur be prime (enough) in October or should I wait until Jan/Feb like I did last year ? Thanks for your input.
