Can someone suggest what position the dog is in when making a dirt hole set ? Some say 1 o'clock , some say 3 o'clock etc. I've looked all over and can't seem to find the thread that explains the reasoning for the differences. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You want to place the dog in such a manner as that it will not move the foot of the target animal IF it steps on the dog and pan.

So your guiding and the direction of approach determines where you position the dog.

So ... one, 11, 3 or 9? Is the animal right or left footed?

Don 't sweat it too much. Bed solidly and all should be good.

I point the dog towards the hole. That is the least likely direction from which the animal will come. After all, it is not going to step in the hole.

Thanks musher and Hal. I was just wondering because I set my trap approximately 6" on the right from the dirt hole.
