Here's the same picture, I zoomed in a little bit. Checked it on GoogleEarth, I took the picture from 1.6 miles, on 11/25/19.

Notice the white looking trees along the river, those are sycamore trees, figure the biggest ones will be 100 feet tall. Gives you a little idea of how much corn is missing. You know how beaver will go back out in a cornfield maybe 50 feet and clear cut and drag out the stalk and all. Bear just smash it down and eat it right there, leaving a tangled up mess.

They've got food and water, they'll stay there and bed down in the field.

Bears can be a problem with anything "food."

A corn fed bear must get HUGE. I know that they get a good layer of fat on them from oats.

There was a bear killed in the next county upstream the other day that weighed 603 pounds. I'll try to get us a picture. I know the bunch that got him. Here on a Sunday, I've been seeing lots of bear dogs going up and down the road. Very big hobby/sport in this area.

Always tough to judge size by photos. 603 is a real big black bear. Or a real fat black bear!

Bear are tough to judge, even if you have your hands on them. That's the best picture I can find of it now.

Well, the WV DNR released the 2019 Buck deer kill numbers. Statewide the kill was down 17% compared to 2018.

I live in Hardy County, looks like Hardy Co. came in eighth of the top 10 counties statewide, with 1,020 bucks. West Virginia has 55 counties. Not so many years ago, Hardy, Grant, Hampshire and Pendleton Counties, (all adjacent counties) would average nearly 3,000 buck deer each, per season. A very big drop in numbers, if you look at it that way.

There have been some really pretty bucks tagged, big bucks. And a lot of folks that hunted, never fired a shot. Overall from what folks are telling me, they're just not seeing deer. You know, one thing that I've noticed in person and on my cameras, we have very few does with twin fawns. Coyotes, bear and eagles are playing a big part in that, my opinion.

Monday. Here's a better picture of the big bear. I first heard that it was 603 pounds, then I heard 536 pounds on certified scales. Any way you look at it, it's a big bear.

I'll try these pictures of pictures.

Well, not sure what to say? A bunch of guys and gals, with their dogs went out hunting the other day, loaded for bear, and came home with 2 loads. Maybe 3 loads?

Bear hunting is a very popular sport or hobby in this area. Very expensive too. I know of bear hounds that have sold for up around $5,000 and more. A well bred pup, started on bear, figure $500 or better. Add in the price of the tracking collars, food and maintenance for the dogs, and a tank of gas everyday, it's expensive. I'm sure sled dogs are about the same. Working dogs.

Talking to Wes, yesterday, he said there were about 15 guys hunting, said they had around 30 dogs. And killed 4 bear, not sure how many they did see? It's illegal here to kill a bear with cubs. Wes killed his bear on the ground, it was not treed.

Like we were talking the other day, if you get a few dogs in the woods, they'll get critters up on their feet, moving. You take 15 guys hunting, you can cover a lot of ground.
