Does everyone tie their 330's off real good? Me and the son caught 7 beaver in a row with good clean kills just staking them with stout stakes. Went back this week and set and guide sticks were trashed and we couldn't find the 330 anywhere. How would a beaver get partially caught to do this?

Don't know about everone but I make sure mine are securely fastened.Animals are not always incapicated "instantly".Giving them time to get away from the set before they expire

I quit using wire to fasten my 330's twenty years ago. Too many escaped beaver (trap and all) with wire. Since that time, I install 5 to 6 feet of chain on my traps with a two foot piece of wire on the end. When I fasten the trap, I fasten it so the only thing between the trap and the fastening is chain. The wire serves only to hold the chain in place.

I learned my lesson on not tying off good enough last year. Had a 40lb+ beaver and not quite enough chain to tie it off in a good spot. Instead of going back to the truck for a stake (didn't have any extension cables at that point), I just made do.

Took a couple of weeks for that beaver to surface and me get my trap back. I tried to skin him out, but he was slipping bad by then.

I've gone to quick links and extension cables now. Quick, easy, light, and reusable. I make mine about 10 feet. They work like a charm.

I also use a long chain on large BG traps with a swivel about a foot from the trap
