Here is a photo of what I tried to explain before. If you just pinched the post together at the top. You created a pivot point for your pan. That is what you described sounds like

Ric thanks for the pic. I watched canines 2000 again and Hal does a great job showing how to adjust traps. I did this step as well and what i did was i only pinched the very top shut. So i went back through all my traps the other day and i pinched them in the middle also my dogs were not filed as straight as i thought so i fixed those as well. thanks

If you look carefully, he's pinching that more towards the bottom than the center.

Endeavor to persevere.
