The price of castor should make all that effort more worthwhile. That .22 looks like it has a story or two to tell.

Looks like you did very good too.

Let me ask about your floats, what is that 3 or 4 inch foam? Looks like maybe a pallet board on the top and bottom?

I zoomed in on the pics the best I can on this computer, I may be completely wrong too.

They are various thickness I recycled some old floats that were a different design on those 3 or 4 inch..

All you really need is 1 x4s top and bottom and 1 1/2 or 2 inch styrofoam sandwich between.

My trap springs are steadied by either spikes or slots on the floats.

Its important that however you position the body grip its jaws clear the float frame when it fires..¹

Looks like a good setup. Just thinking, a bead of glue, like "Liquid Nails" would work good between the foam and the boards.

Talking about pallets, some of them are made from a good grade of lumber. I have a couple mink stretchers that I made from pallet boards. A little board like that would be ideal for a float like this design.

If you have mink in your area, I'm sure you find mink tracks on the floats too.

Not many mink but alot of Otter. I try to have a bit of a side in the front of the float where the castor mound is..5 or 6 inches high is lots..changing my higher side ones to that height.
keeps a beaver from coming over the side to the castor mound.
