You check that it starts, that it has compression, and that it isn't rusted out.

The track should not be worn out.

For a hundred bucks, you should not expect much. A new strap will cost you 50 or so. Plastic bear paw skis to float the front more are an easy 100.

Check that parts are still available.

Search: John Deere snowmobiles. Looks like they ended production in 1984.

I understand that $100 machine in Canada is probably junk or you're buying it for parts.

The lady that sold these last 2, I don't know her that well, but she'll strike you as a woman that everything has to be just so. If the seat is cracked or the paint is faded a little bit, it's not good enough for her. There are folks out there like that.

Years ago there was a JD dealership here in town, 2 guys owned the place, forget when they closed shop? Elwood is about 90 or so now, but I'll ask him if they ever sold snow machines. I figure that they did ? His kids and the other man's kids are about my age or a little older. It's possible that one of them has an old machine sitting in the barn ?

Figure a machine that's 40 years old and hasn't been started for 20 years, $100 sounds about right to me. Spend another 150 and have the thing running like new. Maybe?

But I'll give Elwood and Larry a call later today, give them time to get situated here on a Sunday morning. You never know.

Well, Sandy the lady that sold the 2 snowmobiles for $100 each, finally replied to my message. This what she wrote:

I am sorry...didn't know this message existed..The snowmobiles were sold within minutes of the post...both were in running condition and the guy grabbed the opportunity to buy them.I had several offers wanting them at much more than I put out there but he was first. Sorry.

I'll tell you what I think happened, Sandy didn't know what she had and didn't have a clue as to what they were worth.

I'm trying to track down the man that bought them, never know, he might be happy making $2 or 300 each? I have a feeling, he'll wax and polish up the machines and stick them right back on Facebook market place, priced at about $2,500 each.

Decent track is a big expensive item. Make sure the clutch moves when you rev it….

I'm sure parts for a snow machine would be expensive. Nickle's and Dime's turn into 100's and $500's.

A man told me the other day that he needed one of those little "bubble primer things" for his weedeater, said the saw shop wanted $15. All parts are expensive.

Guys, I missed out on a bargain over the weekend. My brother and his wife went to an auction over in Maryland, I think it was Saturday? Anyway, I just talked to him yesterday, if I'm not mistaken it's an annual auction of donated items for some kind of charity.

They had a bunch of boats and I think 5 snowmobiles. He said everyone was out looking at the boats when they sold the snowmobiles, I think all 5 machines sold for less than $100.

Wilma was with the auctioneer, while Bud was out looking at the boats. She told him, this one sold for $37, This one runs and it went for $85, on down the line. He asked her why she didn't bid? She said she didn't have a number.

Buddy told her, you know Tim is gonna give you hell when he finds out. I'm gonna wait a couple hours and give her time to get everything squared up at her job, then, I'm gonna give the Young Lady a call.

But I'll try to get in touch with the auctioneer, maybe we can get on a deal. He should have everyone's name and phone number. We'll see.

Well, I called my sweet sister-in-law Wilma yesterday. When she answered the phone, I said Good morning Turd. We always end our calls with "Love you" or Love you too. Anyway, she gave me the low down on the operation.

I found the outfit's web page, and sent them a message. I offered to give them a donation, so, they are to get in touch with the buyers of the snowmobiles. And if anyone wants to sell, they'll get me their contact info.

Looking at their web page, the stuff they auctioned was not junk. If that one boat didn't sell for over $3,000. Someone got a bargain.

So, we'll see.
