What's the best stitch (knot) for suturing holes in pelts?

I've been doing a half hitch twice. Usually it works ok, but sometimes on the really huge blowouts I struggle with the first knot slipping (pulling loose) before I can finish the second.

Thanks!

What kind of thread are you using? Is it slick?

I like to make a slip knot and pass the needle through the slip knot. Then I baseball stitch the rest.

On beaver pelts, my partner is super gluing the ends of bite marks together and sticking a thin piece of membrane on top.
