Well it appears I have pulled both a bobcat and a fisher permit. Only had a couple of points for cat, so a real surprise. Anyway, although they are not exactly the same, there are sets for both that are very similar. Just wondering if there is a silver bullet set that will capture either one. Our seasons are from Oct to Jan. Looks like I might be at the cabin for the majority of the winter!

So we had our Wis trappers convention a couple of weeks ago. I bought a couple of round 7" body grip traps. I'll be up at camp next week where I'll boil them, along with some other traps that need some loving. I was thinking about painting them. I have some primer gray I was going to try. I'll tape off where the dog meets the trigger. I've always found that the color gray, not green, is the best camo in the bush. Will this help blend them in with the nature of things, or am I wasting my time? They're sort of a dull gray anyway.

Only a couple points..... Maybe I'm not as far away from another tag as I've been assuming I was.

I always treat my traps with something.
Most are dyed and a few I painted because I didn't have enough to mess with dye.
It feels wrong to let them rust, and it seems like rust might leave marks on light colored fur.
I think a rusty piece of metal might smell more out of place in big woods, more so than farm country too. But that's only a guess.... unless I'm right.

If you are going to paint traps, I think any earth tone color would be fine. Heck, if you are going to bury those traps, you can paint them pink for all it matters.

I am not sure of what the advantages of round BG traps are.

I do know that a lynx can go through a 330, without triggering it, if the triggers are too far to one side.....

Well I'm all set to go with the traps. I boiled the body grips and the footholds, and also waxed the footholds. Just need to remove the wax from the dogs with my mini torch, which I did not have at camp.
And since I had the wax all melted, I created more fire starters. I showed this some time ago, but here it is again. Roll corrugated cardboard strips, fasten with a staple, and insert into a paper style egg carton. Flood each roll with wax, let cool, then separate. To use, just place the starter under the pile of twigs and light it. It will burn for a long time, enough to get the pile of twigs going.

Good idea of using the wax for 2 projects at the same time. Looks like you are ready. I hope all works out as planned.
