Guys I was out the other morning, up pretty high in the mountains east of town. The sky was pretty clear, I could see for better than 30 miles. It was windy as all get out, the wind would rock my little truck parked dead still.

Turkey season was in, needed to take my dog for a run too. Dog and I were hunting around an old apple orchard, a few years ago one of our local hunt clubs bought the orchard. I'm one of the landowners.

Kind of a lazy way of hunting, but turkeys don't like to be in the thick stuff when it's windy. Plus I didn't have much time. I drove up through the orchard, just coasting, dog speed. Got to the back of the orchard, didn't see any birds. Figured I'll give the wind an hour or so to blow the turkeys up in the fields. Thinking maybe I could see them out in open, sneak around and head them off at the pass, and get a shot.

Anyway, I was sitting in the truck. Looking to the north, there was nothing but pristine. Looking at the same mountains and ridges, exactly the same as back when I was a kid. Looking to the west, the ridges and valleys haven't changed, but there are windmills. Honestly, I was sitting there thinking, they are an eyesore.

I personally know guys that work on windmills, I know they make good money, so that's good. And I know even more guys that work on powerlines, and that's good.

But I'd look to the north, then glance to the west. The more I thought about, my opinion, wind power isn't going to solve our energy problems. And they are an eyesore.

I'll remain neutral. I'm not for or against wind power. But our mountains will never look the same. But I'll be out in a place like where I was that morning, and just kind of imagine what it looked like 100 years ago.

I took a picture that day, looking to the north. There isn't a thing in the picture man-made, just a beautiful view.

Like I said, I'm not for or against wind power, but they are ugly.

They are ugly. So are mines, clear cuts, hydro dams, cell towers and everything else. We humans are tough on "views."
