I've never trapped a fisher, this is marten info, but at least some of it is probably applicable.
Squirrels are rumored to be great marten bait too. They don't work very well, and a couple thousand marten bellies I've been in suggest they don't eat squirrels (voles and the occasional bird). Beaver is pretty skookum bait for just about anything.
I have no idea why you'd want your bait 10' from your trap. Put in where they have to wade through a trap to get at the bait. Ditto for the lure - my opinion is, bait is there on the off chance they don't get hung up getting to the lure.
The only reason to use poles, in my opinion, is to keep the mice and shrews off your catch. I check marten traps once a week or less - I have to keep em off the ground. If you're checking daily, set on the ground and catch the percentage that just won't go up a pole.
This probably isn't applicable to fishers, but marten are very cannabalistic. I have to set enough traps to catch everything that's going to come by or I catch heads (in conibears) and legs (in footholds). Sometimes, that means 10 traps (and occasionally 10 marten) within 50 feet of each other.
Poles - or any other exposed bait - catch birds. Make sure your bait is covered. I use buckets.
