Any perceived or real unnecessary damage, harm or pain to a trapped animal is bad on my conscience as a person and a trapper. I once trapped a muskrat in a 330 by the tail at a beaver dam crossover. He was swimming for who knows how long with that trap on him until the grim reaper appeared.
On topic, Double setting a location also acts as an insurance policy.
